Pegs Embroidery Donates $30,000.00 to FDNY following the 9-11 tragedy:

During the week following September 11, 2001 we were approached by the Chesterfield County Fire Department. They asked if we could embroider FDNY on the front of hats and the names of each individual firefighter that was killed on September 11th on the backs of the hats. Each Chesterfield County firefighter was going to wear a hat until all of the firefighters killed on that day were recovered.

We agreed to do the project and began to sew hats – it was an eye opening experience to enter each name into the computer for the embroidery machine to use especially to see that a father and his son were both killed that day. We could not imagine the pain that the families and loved ones must have had to endure.

The local television station did a story on the project initiated by the Chesterfield County Fire Department and they came to take pictures of the hats. They showed our machines sewing the hats on television. They also gave our name out on the air and the next day the phones were ringing off the hook. Everyone wanted to get an FDNY hat. So the Chesterfield County Fire Department asked us if we would take care of the public and provide them with hats also.

We decided that we would donate the profit from the sale of the hats to the Chesterfield County Fire Department and they would take the money to New York and donate it to the Fire Department.

When the project was finished we gave them a check for $30,000. It was our pleasure to be involved in such a loving and giving project. We got notes and emails from many of the families and loved ones of firefighters lost on September 11 and it is something that we will never forget.
